Production Log

Week 9

This week me and my group have finished editing our music video and we have all contributed but we were making, sure that the music video was good and we have to a film a few shots so when we edited our music video it would match the scenes, so when we edited our music video we left some gaps so we knew what scenes to film and what other shots we can replace so it would make sense. We also made sure that we left no gaps and we had no drop frames and we also had to fix the lip syncing because it was a bit of but in the end we managed to fix it due to some assistance from the teachers and we asked them for feedback on our finished music video and they said that it was good so overall me and my group did a good job and we did it on time and we are happy with our music video. On Friday we started to look at the next unit it was a bit like we had to evaluate our, own performance within our music video and we started to discuss the watershed after 9pm and it was interesting, we also discussed the acts of animal cruelty and explicit language being used, and the way the actors act in there videos and how it can influence the society.

I’m all update with the coursework because we just finished our music video and we started the next unit hopefully I will be update with that unit.

This week we did face some problems with the lip-syncing in our music video but we managed to overcome this issue by tightening up the scenes so, now when you watch the music video it will now have a flow to the video.

Next week we are continuing with the new unit we will have time to start evaluating our performance alongside doing to some research and doing a research log.

Week 8
This week me, Darren and Omar have been editing our music video we have all contributed a lot for example me and Darren took it in turns to edit because we thought that it would be fair and Omar was the one that was in charge of doing cutting to the beat because we thought that he would do a great job and also he knows his music and we all try to give ideas so the scenes can match. We are all on schedule but we did face some problems because some of the lip-syncing was off and we had to re film some shots because some of the scenes did not match with the other scenes so in order for the scenes to match we had to re film so the music video would have a rhythm to it. Also we added some effects to the music video so it would enhance the mood of the song.

But we fixed this problem because when we edit our music video we can see that the video is coming into shape and the scenes are matching but we did face another problem and it was, cutting to the  beat but we figured it out and now when we watch our music video it has cutting to the beat so at each stage it cuts to the beat.

Next week we will be finishing off our music video then we have to export it to YouTube and I think that the music video would come out great because our group have done an excellent job.

Week 7 

This week me and my group have been continuing to edit our music video, so far we are at 2 minutes and the music video is coming along well and we are on schedule because when we edit we take our time because we want our video to be good and we ask the teachers to watch it or sometimes our classmates and they give us positive feedback and from there we make the change meant. also we showed Mrs Lowndes because we needed to show it and she said that it was good but we should try to change some scenes so it can be in sync with the video and also we may need to re film some of the lip-syncing because some matches but then some doesn't. Me and Darren take it turns to edit because it would be a fair and because Omar is good, with music he is in charge of cutting to the beat, so whenever he presses the space bar that's when me or Darren depending on who is editing will cut to the beat also in our group we try to switch some scenes to see if it will work and some do work well. We had some problems with some of the scenes because we made the scenes longer when we could of shorten them down. So next week when we edit we will shorten the scenes because then it will give the video a flow and we will experiment with the scenes to see what will work.

Week 6

This week me and my group have contributed by uploading our footage onto final cut express that we have filmed during the half term and from there we have been editing our music video by adding different  scenes but combining them to make the music video more in a chronological order but before we could of done that we had to download our music track so where we had lip sync, we had to match the music with movement. If we need to re film any scenes we will have to re film because we have some gaps in our footage. When we were editing we were making sure that our shots that we filmed cut to beat because if it didn't the music video won't make sense, so we had Omar counting and telling us when we should cut to beat also me and Darren and Omar would take turns to edit because it would be fair and also we have all contributed.

We are on schedule, because we have the work and we are all update with our work and we have all managed our time and and we don't have any issues with the work

We had some problems with final cut express because it was quite some time since we had, used final cut express but now we are gaining our knowledge of how to use final cut express again we had forgot some of the shortcut letters and how to cut and in general how to use the tool but we have been editing for three days and we now know how to use it.

But we did overcome this situation because we know how to use final cut express now because we have been editing for three days and everyday we are learning a new technique about final cut express.

My plans for the following week is to continue to edit our music video and if we need to re film then, we will re film any scenes.

Week 5

This week me and my group have been filming for our music video and we just finished it. It went really well but we had some issues with the car park because we went to the Ilford Exchange car park but we thought that it was a public place, so therefore we didn't need permission but we asked permission just in case and the manager said no so we were not allowed to film in that car park, however we had an alternative and we went to the other car park, next to the cinema in Ilford and we asked for permission and they said yes so everyday when we went to film we needed to ask because each day it was a different person working there but all of them agreed so we finished all our music video, also we stuck to our production schedule and we filmed on those days and we had some issues with the cast because they came a bit late but it wasn't there fault but in the end we resolved it and on the other days they came on time and also we left some days out just in case if we needed to re-shoot any scenes.
How ever since it was the last day of filming we managed our time and we topped up our oyster card therefore, we didn't have any issue and the gaps we left out we doubled check to see if we needed to film anymore scenes. 
The plans for next week is to start to edit our music video and I hope that the footage comes out great along side with the music video

Week 4

During this week me and my group, have been doing a lot of things such as getting our actors to sign our waiver sheet but we had to change our actor because they would have been stressed because they have been contributing in our and contributing in there group so our current actor is , Omar because we said that he will be good and it makes sense because his in our group and there is no mix up between the groups but Omar didn't have to sign the waiver cast sheet because he is our group and I had to finish the production schedule because the first time, I did it wasn't to a good standard and that took some time then my group members were assigned a role and my role was to finish the production role Omar's role was to do the location reccie and Darren did the waiver for the cast then all of us contributed in the call sheet. We are on schedule and this weekend we started filming for our music video and it went well with had no problem and we all managed to get to the area on time and we had some issues with the money for our oytser card but we managed to fix it.Except finding a car park so we can film in and we went to the exchange car park in Ilford and they said no we can't film in but luckily we found a car park were we can film but apart from that it was good and next week as well will be continuing on filming.

Week 3 



This week me Darren, and Omar have finished our shooting script and it took us quite some time but in the end we have finished it our next task was doing our location reccie this means that we had to pick the locations, that we wrote in our script such as the car park the living room and the street but for each one we had back up locations just in case we weren’t allowed to film and me and Omar was in charge of doing that task so we spent 2 minutes figuring out the location and we went with the Ilford Exchange car park because we said that we can access that car park easily but for myself ,I wanted to film in stratford because it was local to me but we went with Ilford because we might not be able to film in the stratford one and it could potentially be busy if we film there maybe some of the cast and crew may not have a lot of money on their oyster card so that could be an issue and we might have to mange time for ourselves to participate in our classmates music video, also I had to fill in a production schedule calendar to let me know when me Darren  and Omar will be filming on and to make sure if we will need to re shoot any scenes and I had to this for another one and it was the editing and I've done that and we left some days out just in case will need to re edit something. We had some problems but we have dealt with it but apart from that we have each have an assigned job role that we will be taking the lead in and next week we will be filming.Below you can see what me and my group have done this week. 

Location reccie

As a group we were told to find suitable locations for our music video. 

We chose the Liberty car park, Romford as as a back-up location if we can not use the Ilford exchange car park and the road. We chose this location also because it is easy for us to get there it is nearby.

We also chose Westfield shopping centre car park in Stratford. We decided upon this because it is very big and spacious and well known.

We have chosen to use the Ilford Exchange car park it's more central and we are going to use the same road for some  of the scenes for the music video and it is  closer for everyone in the group to get to This is a advantage because it is closer to the house location that we are going to film for our music video.

We have chosen to use Darren's  house that is in Goodmayes to film some of our scenes  for example the living room scene and the bedroom scene for some of our music video. The advantage is that this location is closer to the Ilford exchange car park.

We chose to use Omar's house in Bengeo Gardens as a back-up house for the living room and the bedroom if we couldn't film some scenes of our music video at Darren's house the back-up house to film the some of the scenes of the music video for example the bed room and the living room we chose the back-up house because it is closer to the  Ilford Exchange car park it is easier and closer to get to. Plus it is on the way to llford and is in the same location that we was going to use in the video. This would be an advantage because this would be our back up location if we couldn't use Darren's house for the music video.

 

  

Permission to Film

In our music video we don’t need to ask permission because these locations are free to use except

the Car Park but we may need to ask permission for that but if we are not allowed to film there we may film in a balcony depends but apart from that they are public locations so we can film but we will need to double check with the Car Park but if they agree then we will film there but if they don’t this will mean that we will change location and we need to re shoot the Car park scenes but for our other locations we do not need permission for example the streets we will not need permission because it's a public location and for the family property we may need permission if we are allowed to film in there house but if we are not allowed then we will have to change some of the house scenes but it may be likely that we be filming in a house. The picture is the house of Darren and we have asked permission if we can film and we are allowed to film there for our video, and above this is the car park that we will film and we are allowed to film in the Car Park because it's a public location and this will mean that we would not have to change any scenes.

Job Roles and Responsibilty

In our music video we have assigned job roles these are the roles Camera Operator and editor and Director  and Production manager

Director and production Manager

Darren is the Director and the production manager because it's his music video and he knows what to do and his in charge so he tells the Cast what he wants to happen in his music video and his the one that makes the decision also he can change the concept of the music video if he wants so we think Darren will be suitable for this role and we chose him again to be the production manager because I know that he can manage a team together and he will know what days to film and what time to film also his has a lot of responsibility and I know that he will do a great Job

Camera Operator

For the Camera operator my group have nominated me to be the Camera Operator because they know that I will do a great job and I’m not that skilled at Camera work but once I start to film I’ll get in the gist of things and they said that I’m responsible for bringing the equipment which I am and I will get there on time to film

we have chosen Omar to be the editor because we know that he will do a great job and his good at editing and he will know what effects to use in the scenes and he will know what transitions to use in it as well so we have picked him because we trust him and his dedicated to it as well

Week 2 

This week Me Darren and Omar have been planning our shooting script in order to produce our music video but we still haven't finished it but we are on the verge of finishing it .We have done separate parts for example each of us are doing it on the same document, but we take it in turns to fill in the shooting script. And we had to discuss what was going to go in the script but it took us time to figure out because we were stuck on how to start it and we asked Mr Philipson and Mrs Lowndes and when they saw our script they said it was good but we just needed to figure out the length but once we got the first one done we started to get in the flow of things and the script itself is good and we also colour co-ordinate it, so when we come to film we will know what part to film but we had some issue with the time because we had to listen to the song and we had to count how many second so we can roughly put it on the script. We have overcome this because we started to understand it and the script makes sense and the location makes sense because at each part of the chorus it will go to the car park scene, and also we have linked some ideas in the song. Another thing is that when we start to film we will try to manage the time for the cast  to film and one of use will take care of the equipment so when we start to film we will take it in turns to take care of the music video.  Next week will be doing our pre-production.

Weekly Production Log

Week 1

This week I have contributed to a lot of sessions such as myself taking part in a presentation and me picking my group to produce a music video, and I had to come up with a suitable name and the name I chose was Universe because me and my group will keep expanding our ideas so that's why I chose it. It also fits in the production schedule because the dates we are supposed to film on are good and we will be able, to film on those days and we were all allocated to different roles and we as a group came up with some good ideas for the project, Yes there was some problems because I was nervous performing my presentation in front of the class and I had another problem with me participating in a group but I have overcome these problems because I was in front of the class, I felt more relaxed and with me participating in the group I feel more secure because we are all sharing our ideas and this week me and my group members had to fill in a draft script sheet so we will know what is going to happen in the music video so when we do our script for real we will have something to build on and we will have manage our time to produce our music video how ever.The plans 
for next week is working on our shooting script because we will be making our music video .

Are there any areas of the presentation you would like to give any more detail on?

The areas of my presentation I would have liked to cover was Narrative because Narrative was a major part for my music video because the song was telling a story throughout, another convention I missed out on was performance and I would have liked to give more detail on how it would fit into my music video and how I will use the convention in my music video. I missed out on my music theory and I would give more detail on it for example I would say that my music theory is about a guy thinking about life and how can he change his life, also I missed out on live type because for the title of the song I would need to have some graphic on it and I would have gone into more detail into the conventions and Goodwin's theory.

What did your audience identify as the strengths of your music video idea?

The audience identified that my idea was original because the conventions I chose and I used some of Goodwin’s theory such as amplifying and illustrating so this, made it original because I thought outside the box. The audience thought it was creative and it was a new concept also they thought that it was practical because the location I chose to film was a good location because it would match with the pace of the song.

What did your audience identify as areas for improvement?

The areas where the audience said I should improve on was technicality such as the camera work and the editing because I didn't go into a lot of detail and that I should give more detail on whats going to happen in the music video. The class gave me some ideas for one of the interest because I asked them a question and one of the pupils suggested that the interest is life and some of the teachers said that I should change the ethnicity to be black because the song itself is hip hop.

What changes will you make to your music video concept based on the feedback you received?

Based on the feedback I got, the changes I would make for my music concept was my music theory because I didn't give enough detail to it as I would have liked to and I would have made another change to the practicality but I wouldn't change the song, the audience suggested that I should use Narrative which I will use it and I will expand on my ideas such as the location for example i would use different location because it would make the music video more interesting.

The target audience for this song is from 16- 20 because when you listen to the song and when you see the lyrics it talks about life about how you need to dig deep and that life is tough and this song would not appeal to 12 year old because they haven't experienced life and they are not in that situation yet. This song doesn't have a gender to it because its aimed at male and female, no matter what location you are at you can still have a positive relationship with the song because it's global.

Section 2- Analyzing lyrics

The lyrics of the song makes you think and it makes you think for the good reasons and it can change how you are in a way. for example the lyrics says  "look deep in yourself life can be challenging, hard and complex be ready for the challenge take a deep breath and stand up when the strength on your legs done left". The meaning of this lyric is that like is a challenge and can you overcome that challenge.

The genre of the song is rap but the rap it self is positive  but the beat of this rap is a jazz and its going at a slow pace because they want the audience to think and when you listen to the song the rapper is rapping about the truth about life. one of lyrics says "I used to think until I finally thought that it’s not that easy cos life brings a lot of chance" this is saying that there is a lot of chance in life.
