Goodwin's ideas about Music Video

Andrew Goodwin was a university professor and also he was an author and he wrote a book about his theory of music videos and his book was called Dancing in the Distraction Factory also the book was published in 1992.

Illustrating

Illustrating is the video directly corresponding to lyrics as in this case the song underneath that is called fireflies.

This music video cuts to the beat really well for example at 1:18 the robot is matching to the beat and it makes it interesting because the lyrics are matching the beat but as well when you watch this video the video it self has an impact because its a good video and it connotes that the artist is creative and they use this cutting to the beat style really well. The camera language of this video are shots were it illustrates the lyrics matching the movements and the mood of the song.

Amplifying

I chose this song because it enhances the style and mood of the song because it matches the mood of the song for example at 0:29 it has the child and his blocking out the noise because the man is shouting at him and the camera language of this video are majority of the time close-ups because to see how the facial expressions are and this a method of the Goodwin theory.

Contradicting

contradicting is the video deliberately going against the lyrics and the mood of the song.

I chose this music video because the lyrics doesn't match the action there are a lot of different camera techniques and the style of this video is weird because the lyrics does't match the video also the artist is not talking about money but yet it's indicates money and this will confuse the audience because of the way the video is laid out for example at 1:03 it's contradicting because the artist is saying "it's not about the money money" but in the video it shows her behind a money tree.

Voyeurism

I chose video because the music video itself is very stereotypical but the video has a lot of females and the way that the females are treated are bad because, the men are just staring at them but at 1:45 it shows that the men are seeking for females and this may not appeal to the audience because the audience may view this video in a different way because of the treatment of the females  because not a lot of video include voyeurism but this video is entertaining also the camera language of this music video was majority of the time close-ups of the females faces so that indicates that the treatment of females are there faces also at 1:00 it has a man dressing as a female going into the men's bathroom and as well you wouldn't expect that sort of action to be happening.

Intertextual

Inter textual is when the video represents a movie or a TV show
I chose this music video because it references the film despicable me by including the characters, from the actual film another thing is that it would provide further gratification and pleasure to the viewers and fans because they would see some footage from the film and ,also you can replay the video again and again. Another thing is that at 0:04 it has the characters from the movie called despicable me so therefor it's referring to the film.

Iconography

I chose this song because it's a good iconography because it has a style and element of mise en scene because the video has a lot of animation for example at 0:25 it has animation of the lyrics that ,are the artist is singing but at 0:27 it has the audiences hand and as well it matches the lyrics of mood and the action of the music and the video
and it cuts to beat well for example at 1:02 it cuts to beat the lyrics are matching the action. A nothing is that the genre for this song is Hip-Hop.
This is a theory of Goodwin.

Star persona

Star persona is when the record company will make a request to have close-ups on the artist's face because the artist is the main focus because the artist is the image some times the artist has to put this image on but in reality there not like that or sometimes the artist may do a different song and the audience would be amazed because they wouldn't aspect that style from that artist.

I went for this song because it's a
characteristic of star persona because at 0:06 it starts with the two artist that are smoking weed and the video is simple because all there doing is smoking and the video has females for example at 0:37 it has the close up of the females hand that has a cigarette and a lighter and this would shock the audience because they don't expect females to smoke weed. These five elements are the theory of Goodwin.
